Internacional (Marketwired, 26 de Agosto de 2013) Robert Goguen, Member of Parliament for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe, on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today announced that, through the newly established Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program, the Government of Canada is partnering with Sentinelles Petitcodiac Riverkeeper, Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance, Groupe des bassins versants de la baie des Chaleurs, Southeastern Anglers Association and Ducks Unlimited Canada to conserve fish habitat in New Brunswick."Recreational fishing is a popular leisure activity in Moncton that not only brings family and friends together, but also contributes to our economy by attracting tourists and creating jobs," said MP Goguen. "Through partnering with our local groups who work on the ground to conserve fish habitat, the Government of Canada helps promote investments in recreational fisheries habitat restoration in our province, for the benefit of our communities in years to come."
The funding announced today in New Brunswick will support effective implementation of the Humphreys Brook Restoration Project (Phase 2); of Habitat Restoration Projects in the Petitcodiac Watershed; of a project to protect, preserve and restore fish habitat in Mills and Ormes Rivers; of a project to connect and improve fish habitat restored sites that were established in Mill Creek and Black River; and of the Front Lake project to redesign fishway to improve passage for a diversity of migratory fish species. These projects were submitted during the first round of applications for Fisheries and Oceans Canada's Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program, which closed on July 12, 2013.
In this first round, a total of 13 projects were approved in New Brunswick to restore, rebuild and rehabilitate recreational fisheries habitat. The Government of Canada will provide as much as $552,000 to support these projects.
The Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program will make as much as $10 million available over the next two years to support recreational fisheries habitat conservation activities. The funding for projects submitted in the first round of applications provides up to $6.5 million for 104 projects to restore, rebuild and rehabilitate recreational fisheries habitat across the country.
