Deportes Estilo de vida y ocio

Internacional (Marketwired, 08 de Agosto de 2013) Team New Zealand took a break from their on-water America's Cup training for a high-intensity training session with Les Mills, the world's largest provider of group training programs, at the Bay Club in San Francisco, California. The team and their head trainer David Slyfield were joined by Les Mills National Trainer Jeremiah Evans as he led them through the hottest workout in fitness today, LES MILLS GRIT™.The LES MILLS GRIT™ Series features three unique team training workouts — cardio, strength and plyometrics — that use high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to transform participants' fitness levels with intense 30-minute sessions. Research done at Penn State University that found LES MILLS GRIT™ sessions resulted in marked increases in oxygen consumption and strength and decreased triglycerides and body fat, compared to regular exercise.

Team New Zealand has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Les Mills International; the team members have trained at Les Mills clubs in New Zealand for two decades. Head Trainer David Slyfield is one of the most sought-after athletic trainers in New Zealand. A world leader in Sports Science, David has been involved in some of New Zealand's greatest sporting moments over the last 20 years and has trained Team New Zealand for 13 years.

"For us, it's really important that our training has relevance to what we do on the water," says David. "In the boat, we're sailing along on a giant trampoline that's going 50 mph, so stability is huge. The plyometric GRIT session has great synergy to what we do on the water. Our team has had good physical preparation and help from a lot of great people like Les Mills, so we're looking forward to the next phase of competition and hope to win the whole shebang."

"We could not be more pleased for the opportunity to spend an hour with our friends on Team New Zealand," says Phillip Mills, CEO of Les Mills International. New Zealand is an island nation and sailing is a national pastime. New Zealanders win many Olympic medals and most of those sailors go on to compete in the America's Cup, which is regarded here as the pinnacle of the sport. Having watched the team train over the years, I can attest that they are in incredible shape.

Based in Auckland, New Zealand, the Les Mills organization was founded in 1968 by Les Mills Sr, a former Olympic athlete and New Zealand national track and field coach. His grandson, Les Jr, is the creator of the popular LES MILLS GRIT™ Series, the latest offering from Les Mills International that is scientifically proven to provide maximum intensity and ultimate results. In conjunction with researchers at Penn State University, Les Mills tested two groups of 42 fit adult exercisers who performed five hours of pre-choreographed exercise per week.
